Nissan Formula E Team launches The NISMO Pit for Tokyo E-Prix in collaboration with Japanese designer Kenichi Minami

Experience inspired by Japan’s 90s underground car culture welcomes the NISMO community

YOKOHAMA, Japan – As Formula E returns to Japan for the third consecutive season, the unmistakable spirit of Japan's iconic 90s car scene is having a renaissance during the Tokyo E-Prix, as Nissan Formula E Team will launch The NISMO Pit – a one night pop-up event for fans on Saturday 25th July.

Inspired by the nation's golden era of street car culture, where passionate enthusiasts gathered to champion community, identity and craftsmanship, The NISMO Pit looks to revive this ritual for a new generation of fans with an immersive experience celebrating Nissan's motorsport heritage.

Visitors will have the opportunity to see iconic Nissan performance vehicles from the brand's Heritage Collection, enjoy classic diner-inspired food and soak up live DJ sets. This unique experience will capture the sights, sounds and spirit of the local car scene by bringing the distinctive atmosphere of legendary meet-ups into the heart of the Japanese capital.

Working alongside Tokyo-based car network NowhereToGo, the event will showcase a selection of modified Nissan road cars, highlighting the creativity and individuality that continue to define the automotive world.

The current Nissan Formula E GEN3 Evo car will also be on display, sporting a special one-off NISMO-inspired livery created exclusively for Nissan Formula E Team's home race weekend. The design will be unveiled during race week, with this event giving fans an exclusive opportunity to see it up close as part of the wider celebration of NISMO heritage.

To bring the experience to life, Nissan Formula E Team has collaborated with acclaimed designer Kenichi Minami whose nostalgic artwork rooted in Japanese aesthetics has built a worldwide following. His distinctive style will transform The NISMO Pit into a visual tribute of Nissan's influence on automotive trends.

Minami shared his pride in being the creative driving force behind the experience, commenting: "It was a real honor to be involved in this project with Nissan Formula E Team. The thing that excited me the most was thinking about how to turn the speed and futuristic feeling of Formula E and NISMO's culture into a logo and graphic identity. The red rear lights of the Nissan Formula E car and the image of light stretching horizontally became a major cue. I felt that this direction matched the sense of speed and electric atmosphere Formula E delivers. I'm sure it's going to be an unforgettable event in Tokyo and I'm proud to be a part of it."

More than just a fan zone, The NISMO Pit has been designed as a tribute to the communities that shaped Japan's car scene. Attendees will be taken back to the era of late-night meets, where modified cars lined neon-lit streets and friendships were forged over a shared passion for performance. A time where a generation of enthusiasts created a movement that continues to influence automotive design and motorsport around the world.

The event will get underway on Saturday 25 July at City Circuit Tokyo Bay from 18:00 (UTC+9), with fans able to watch Round 14 live on screens throughout the venue as the Tokyo E-Prix begins at 20:00. The experience will remain open after the race until 23:00, welcoming both visitors and fans returning from the circuit.

About Nissan in Formula E

Nissan made its all-electric racing debut in Season 5 (2018/19) of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, becoming the first and only Japanese manufacturer to enter the series.

In Season 7 (2020/21), Nissan announced its long-term involvement in Formula E and its commitment to the GEN3 era, which will run from Season 9 (2022/23) through to the end of Season 12 (2025/26) of the all-electric racing series.

Season 11 (2024/25) saw Nissan Formula E Team secure the Drivers’ World Championship with Oliver Rowland as the Brit took seven podiums, including four victories, and three pole positions, winning the title with two races to go.

For Season 12 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, the Nissan Formula E Team drivers are Oliver Rowland and Norman Nato.

Nissan races in Formula E to bring the excitement and fun of zero-emission electric vehicles to a global audience.
